International Experience and National Values Inspire Students
At the initiative of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology of the Faculty of Foreign Philology, Kokand State University hosted an inspiring meeting with our compatriot, Visola Haydarova, who has achieved international success.
Born in Kokand and currently living in Trieste, Italy, Haydarova shared her journey of winning a scholarship to study at Adria UWC (United World College of the Adriatic), her experience of studying alongside students from more than 80 countries, and her further education in literature at the University of Trieste.
During the event, she spoke about life abroad, living conditions, and her professional activities at North Sails, one of the world’s leading organizations that organizes the largest international sailing regatta, Barcolana. She also actively contributes to events aimed at uniting people through sports and cultural exchange.
In her speech, Haydarova highlighted the core principles of the United World Colleges (UWC) movement — uniting people, nations, and cultures through education, and serving peace and a sustainable future. She emphasized that the values of empathy, responsibility, and mutual respect fostered in an international student community create a foundation for positive change in the world.
She also discussed the National Weeks project, where students showcase their national culture, traditions, and cuisine. Haydarova actively promoted Uzbekistan’s rich culture and heritage during these events.
Reflecting on her social service at UWC Adriatic, she noted her meetings with local schoolchildren to introduce them to Uzbekistan and Uzbek culture. She also stressed the importance of the UWC tutoring system, where each student is assigned a tutor to provide academic and personal support — a system that played a significant role in her own life.
At the end of the meeting, faculty members emphasized that such events serve as a great source of inspiration for young people and expressed their gratitude to Visola Haydarova.
